GWINNETT COUNTY FAIR : There is nothing like a midway to bring back memories. In a time of electronic entertainment, there is a certain joy in having your senses overloaded with too much neon, junk food and carney barkers giving you a shot at glory... and a green stuffed gorilla. One real surprise is how even dorky rides look when you photograph them at night and play a few tricks with time and space. TRAVELING VIETNAM MEMORIAL 7-2008 : The Traveling Vietnam Wall Memorial came to Roswell, GA this weekend and I had the privilege of photographing it. It isn't the one in WDC but that in no way detracts from the message it carries that we enjoy our freedom and way of life because of the sacrifices of many and the ultimate sacrifice of far to many. We owe them our respect and gratitude every day. If this comes to your town, go see it. It is profoundly moving as you see a person all alone, search the wall, stop and slowly their hand goes to the wall and a finger hesitates then comes to rest on a single name. It stays there as they think of family or comrades in arms that although lost, will never be forgotten. The, they slowly lower their arm and stand silently for minutes on end. Then reluctantly turn and slowly walk back with their heads up knowing they just touched a hero.

BALLOON FESTIVALS : Balloon draw a crowd. It seems everyone loves balloons. The real action begins at dawn as the Balloneers or whatever they are called, prepare their craft for lauch. Note, is a balloon a "craft?" Whatever, don't miss one of these events, the big one is in "Albert turkey" New Mexico, in October. Many other events are held around the country. Freedom Weekend Aloft, May, 2004. and the "Race to the Ocean," June, 2004. Helen, GA. were two I photographed.
